The day so many of us have long awaited and hoped for finally arrived for Lenora! Yesterday she was officially adopted by a wonderful human who spent lots of time getting to know her and a month fostering her to ensure that he’s ready to give her a lasting, loving home. Finding a home for Lenora, whom we originally transferred into our care from Richmond Animal Care and Control, has been a team effort on the part of so many staff and volunteers, and Jackie Laubacher, senior behavior and training specialist, has been the tireless leader of Team Lenora.
Lenora is a challenging dog, but she’s not challenging to love for those who’ve taken the time to become her friends, and Jackie has made sure that Lenora had plenty of friends at the Richmond SPCA. With all of her friends, plus the fans who’ve only known her at a distance, Lenora was surrounded by people who worked to understand her fears and quirks and to ensure that she thrived in spite being in a shelter longer than most.
Our Running Buddies Program has been great for Lenora, who is a natural athlete. Her favorite buddy for runs is Janice Akers Marauta, and they’ve run together three times each week. Last night Lenora returned from foster care to say farewell to many of her friends and to go on one last run with Janice.
Though she will always be well loved here, a shelter is not a home, and what we’ve all wanted is for Lenora to have a home of her own. The Richmond SPCA never gave up on Lenora. We can’t even consider what her prospects may have been anywhere else, because with us she was safe. Love lives here.

Great news-I’ve been following Lenora for about 4 years. When I was pregnant with my first child, all I wanted was a “push puppy” and I fell in love with her. We already have 2 female dogs with big personalities, so it wouldn’t have worked, but I’ve kept up with Lenora ever since. This makes my heart sing. Congrats, Lenora!!!

That’s wonderful !! I do hope it will be her forever home. I’m on a train to nyc and right behind me is another former green team member . We haven’t seen each other’s in a long time until today on this train! And we had just talked about Lenora.
Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen, especially Jackie!
