Does Murphy know a little something about Murphy's Law? After two years in our care, he has sure seen his fair share of medical procedures (four surgeries!); but through his long and arduous medical journey, Murphy has remained in high spirits and is now available for adoption!
This special boy is looking for a home that can care for his rare condition called Immune Mediated Polyarthiritis. This immune disorder leads to bone and cartilage erosion, and Murphy is sadly an example of what happens when the condition is left untreated. Prior to the Richmond SPCA bringing Murphy into or care, he had been left to such neglect that his front paws had completely rotated outward making walking painful and difficult. After four corrective surgeries, Murphy is now able to walk slowly, but comfortably. His condition is now managed by medication and through continued veterinary care, it should not advance.
But what makes Murphy special are not his needs, but his incredible personality. He truly LOVES everyone. Dogs, cats, humans, other animals... he loves everyone so much that he can be oblivious to whether the object of his affection returns the same feelings. Murphy can brush up on his social skills and learn a few tricks as well, so we are offering FREE Canine Manners classes for whoever adopts him. This sweet guy is the definition of a "cuddle bug" and he lives to please his people. His foster provider noted that he will follow his person around like a shadow in hopes of a dropped treat. And oh, did we mention he loves food? He. will. do. anything. for. food.
We hope that there is a wonderful family waiting for this amazing dog. Though he requires a number of ongoing, daily medications, anyone adopting from the Richmond SPCA is eligible to become a client of our low-cost, full-service Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital. Adopting a pet with a chronic condition like Murphy's can be financially manageable thanks to donations to our hospital.
Murphy's can-do attitude and bright outlook on life have surely impacted our staff, and we know his enthusiasm will rub off on his adoptive family as well. If Murphy's Law says, "What can go wrong, will go wrong," then Murphy's attitude is, "What can go right, will go right!"
