Editors Note: We recently received an update from Shannon O’Shea about her newly adopted cat, Mackenzie, now named Gracie. We are thrilled to hear that Gracie has wasted no time in making herself at home with the O'Shea family. The following was contributed by Gracie's adopter, Shannon O'Shea.
I had recently lost a beloved cat and for the first time in more than twenty years, my house was empty. I met Mackenzie this past weekend on Saturday, August 22nd after visiting with many other beautiful cats available for adoption. When Mackenzie, now Gracie, came into the visiting room, it was love at first sight. She was beautiful, sweet, playful and sassy! It took only a matter of minutes for both of us to know she found a forever home.
I was certainly more apprehensive than she was when I let her out of her carrier. She spent only seconds checking out her food, water and litter box set up before she bounced from room to room with her tail raised high. She rubbed her face on everything she saw, including me, declaring it hers. Within thirty minutes of her arrival she sprawled out on the living room couch next to me purring and craving attention. She loves looking at her reflection in all the mirrors which makes brushing my teeth and applying make-up much more interesting.
Yesterday was the first time I left her alone for more than eight hours and I had every expectation of finding toilet paper in the hallway and curtains off the windows when I returned home from work. Instead I found this little beauty waiting for me in the front hallway greeting me with purrs and head-butts.
I can’t express my appreciation to all the wonderful employees and volunteers at the Richmond SPCA. Without you, Gracie and I would not have found one another.
Gracie not only filled the empty space in my home but she filled the empty place in my heart.
