Hello! My name is Victoria. My boyfriend, Jordan, and I adopted our dog Zander (formally named Nelson) from the Richmond SPCA in July. He was going to be an early birthday gift from Jordan, since I have always had a love for dogs and was finally ready to have one of my own. Zander was the first dog that we looked at, after going through what felt like a million dogs online. He was the first one we looked at and the first stop of many. We came for a visit to see how he would be for us; I could tell right away that he was definitely a people dog by his out of control wagging tail and happy smile to see us. We did not want to jump on the decision too quickly, so we said that we were going to look at other dogs and let them know.
Going to many adoption locations around town, there were plenty of well-matched dogs for us that were in need of homes. However, with every one that we looked at, something was just missing. We saw Zander everywhere; we just could not stop thinking about him! So the following morning I called hoping that he was still there, and he was! I told the lovely lady on the phone to not let anyone see him, we were on our way and fast! He seemed like he remembered us from last time and was again overly ecstatic to get out of the kennel. We signed the papers and were off to get all of our new supplies for our pet! Coming home we were worried that he would not want to calm down and would want to get into everything, yet the first thing he did was sniff around a little and then he laid down right on the floor like it had been his home the whole time. A month and some doggie training classes later, he is still improving every day and we could not love him more! Thank you Richmond SPCA for giving us a companion and a place for him in our hearts!
