On Sept. 13, we brought nine dogs into our care who had been living in awful conditions on a property in Goochland, and WRIC 8 News was here at our Robins-Starr Humane Center when they arrived. Yesterday, 8News Anchor Amy Lacey returned to follow up on the condition of these dogs who are getting a second chance at the Richmond SPCA.
WRIC Richmond News and Weather -Although we expected that it would be a few weeks until the first of these dogs is ready for adoption, we have a happy update to share. Ivey, who we estimate to be a 5-year-old American Staffordshire mix, is the youngest and healthiest of the group of dogs we rescued from Annette Thompson's property; she is also the only one of these nine dogs who had previously been spayed or neutered. After receiving updated vaccinations and a thorough examination by our veterinary team, Ivey has moved into a Living Room in our Adoption Center. There, she is eagerly awaiting visitors.
In spite of living in a filthy outdoor kennel where she likely had very infrequent contact with people, Ivey is a very social dog. Her reaction to human contact is exhuberant and wiggly, playful behavior. She will play with toys, but she is more interested in staying close to anyone who visits with her. Since she has been here at the Richmond SPCA, Ivey has shown us that she will eagerly sit for a treat and that she's a quick learner when it comes to leashed walks.
To learn more about Ivey, call our adoption line at 804-521-1307. We promise continued updates as the other eight dogs make progress in preparation for adoption.
