We'd like to wish a very happy birthday to Amy Lacey! Amy, an award-winning co-anchor of WRIC's 8News at 5:30, has chosen to celebrate her birthday in a very special way. As a birthday gift to herself, this is the second year Amy decided to sponsor the adoption of one of the available pets at the Richmond SPCA. We are deeply grateful for her generosity. Amy, an avid pet lover, hopes to give another family or individual the kind of unconditional love and companionship she enjoys from her own feline companion, Gizmo. She adopted Gizmo while she was doing a story at an animal shelter in North Carolina after Hurricane Isabel.
Amy asked our help in identifying a deserving pet to benefit from her birthday sponsorship this year. She believes strongly in helping homeless pets by adopting and knows while each one is worthy of a loving home, some are overlooked and need special attention in order to be united with the right adopter. Summer seemed to be the perfect beneficiary of Amy's generosity.
The majority of the pets in our care are adopted by loving families in only a few days or weeks. From time to time we have a pet that enters our care that needs a little extra help finding a home. Some of these dogs or cats will need ongoing management of medical or behavioral needs after they're in a home. However, in other instances, they may simply be senior pets who have been overlooked by potential adopters. Summer has experienced the latter.
Summer, an 11-year-old domestic short hair mix, is one of our long-term feline residents. Prior to coming to the Richmond SPCA, Summer lived a quiet and lonely life without a guardian. Her time at our humane center has taught her that human companions have a lot of love to offer. Our staff and volunteers have had the honor of watching her personality blossom and confidence grow. Summer gets along well with other cats. However, she will not compete with them for attention. If you are already the guardian of a four-legged friend, that's okay! Summer would simply appreciate some quiet one-on-one time being set aside for her so she can give and receive affection from her human friends. With a little time and patience, Summer can and will become a constant companion for anyone looking for a loyal feline friend.
All pets available for adoption at the Richmond SPCA have already been spayed or neutered, microchipped and are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. When you adopt a pet from our humane center, you qualify to become a client of our Clinic for Compassionate Care, a full-service veterinary clinic providing high-quality care at a low-cost for pets in the Richmond area.
