Companion animals throughout Henrico County desperately need your help. The Richmond SPCA urges you to attend a hearing before the Henrico County Board of Zoning Appeals on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. in the County’s Administration Building at 4301 E. Parham Road.
The case of Susan Mills, a long-time resident of the county and a feral cat caretaker and Trap-Neuter-Return advocate whose story we’ve shared with you previously, will be considered at this meeting. At stake is the ability for her, or by default anyone, in an R-4 district to feed or otherwise care for companion animals in the outdoors, which include feral cats.
Please join us Oct. 20 to support Ms. Mills and the right of Henrico County residents to care for and feed companion animals on their own property. Key messages important to convey include:
- If the Board of Zoning Appeals denies the appeal of Ms. Mills, it will provide a legal basis for the prohibition of feeding companion animals on one’s own property in the future.
- This is precisely the kind of excessive and controlling government intervention in personal lives that citizens nationwide are tired of.
- If the County’s Planning Office succeeds in its efforts to prevent Ms. Mills and others from delivering care on their own properties to feral cats, then thousands of innocent companion animals’ lives will be at risk throughout Henrico, and the community will be outraged.
- Feeding or otherwise caring for dogs and cats is as customary to a residence as mowing your grass, sunbathing or hosting a cookout with friends.
Please help us protect and defend feral cats and other companion animals in Henrico by attending this important meeting. The public hearing will be held in the Board Room of the County Administration Building at 4301 E. Parham Road in Henrico. We are deeply grateful for your support.
