With Valentine’s Day approaching, many people are thinking about ways to show those closest to them how much they love them. Holidays like Valentine’s Day generally revolve around us showing our love to our two-legged friends; however, it is important that we remember to show our four-legged valentines that they are important to us as well.
You probably give your own pets treats, take them for walks, rub their bellies and spend quality time with them to show how much you love them. But what about shelter pets? How do you show these animals that they are just as special and that someone loves them too? Answer: Become a volunteer.
Volunteers at the Richmond SPCA show shelter pets love in many ways. Sure, they give them treats and take them for walks, but our volunteers go above and beyond that to show their love for the animals. They help clean cages, do mounds of laundry, make phone calls, assist with technical and clerical work, help with adoptions and special events and much more! Some of these tasks aren’t glamorous by any means, but our volunteers know just how important they are to the animals in our care and they perform their duties with remarkable enthusiasm and dedication. Real love is doing something for another being without receiving anything in return --- and the volunteers of the Richmond SPCA exemplify that every single day!
To show your love for the Richmond SPCA shelter pets and to become an active volunteer, please register for a new volunteer orientation online. If you have any questions or do not have internet access, please call the volunteer office at (804) 521-1329. Thank you from the staff of the Richmond SPCA and the animals!
