In the fall of 2011, the Richmond SPCA introduced a new training opportunity for dogs. School for Dogs allowed pet owners to bring their canines to class two days per week to learn manners, tricks and other fun things that our furry friends are capable of. The response was so great that School for Dogs grew to accommodate even more interested students in November of 2012.
Every morning the behavior and training specialists look forward to seeing their furry students wagging their tails as they walk in. New pupils learn quickly that this is a fun place to learn. They are trained with positive reinforcement, which motivates "Fido" to continue to learn new skills. Some of the students have been attending since the first day and continue to amaze, making their guardians proud of the new skills they learn. At the end of the day, students go home happy with their “backpacks” full of detailed report cards and videos of their big day at school for their guardians to enjoy.
Treat your dog to positive and rewarding training at the Richmond SPCA School for Dogs. Not only will your dog be happy, but training enables a well-rounded relationship and lifestyle between you and your canine friend at home.
Stay tuned to learn more about what a day at the School for Dog looks like!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about
Shool for Dogs--my dear Gus has been enrolled since the program fist started and it is amazing. In addition, to learning important manners, all the other activities, which include agility, tricks, nose work and more, provide mental stimulation which is so important to the well being of our canine companions. Lizzy,
a new member of our family is also a student.
When she first joined our family--another Richmond SPCA alum, as is Gus--she was nervous about walking in our neigborhood and traumatized about getting in a car.
well, she has become a social butterfly after attending SFD--the positive reinforcement and variety of activities has helped make her a really super dog on so many levels. The trainers--Joanne, Joyce, Jessica and Sarah are simply outstanding. They come to know each dog so welll and can tailor training to each one's needs. A truly superb, wonderful, important program.
very unique and we are so fortunate to have such a School for Dogs available in Richmond.
