What a wonderful and rewarding holiday! We had 154 adoptions last week, bringing the total number of adoptions to 340 since the start of the Priority Automotive sponsorship on Tuesday, Dec. 13. These once orphaned pets now have loving and caring homes thanks to Priority Automotive's generous decision to cover every adoption fee until Dec. 31. If you missed the blog about this lifesaving sponsorship, read it here.
Congratulations also to our hard-working adoption team. These skyrocketing adoption numbers have kept our entire adoption staff working tirelessly to ensure that all the dogs, cats, kittens and puppies go home with responsible and caring families. With the support of all our staff and volunteers, they have made wonderful matches and educated new pet parents on the responsibilities that are part of the lifetime commitment of caring for companion animals. Our admissions team has also been hard at work tranferring orphaned pets from various government shelters in our area. From Dec. 13-23, we increased transfers of pets from other shelters by 143 percent over the same period last year.
Adoption Specials
Our friends at Priority Automotive and its associated Richmond-area dealerships are generously paying the adoption fee for every dog, cat, puppy or kitten adopted from the Richmond SPCA through Dec. 31. That's right – you provide a precious homeless animal with a lifetime of love, and Priority will cover the adoption fee.
Offsite Adoptions
We also have many cats available at two area PETCO stores, so remember to stop by the PETCO stores at Staples Mill and Short Pump to meet your new feline friend!
See other upcoming off-site adoption events.

We can't thank Priority enough for their generosity. After losing our 14 year old Australian Shepherd mix in August (we had her since she was a puppy), something told us this would be a great opportunity to find another dog and give it a loving home.
We adopted Jingles last week (have renamed her Jasmine but call her Jazzy for short). She has been so well adjusted and just an absolute sweetheart. She acts as though she has always been a part of the family. We all adore her and are thankful to Priority for the chance to give her a forever home.

We adopted a new cat - known as Fergie at the SPCA but now known as Starlet! Our dog AstroBoy LOVED her the instant he met her and she's now warming up to him. We're sure that by the start of 2012, they're going to forget what it was like to live without each other! Thank you SPCA and Priority! We weren't 100 percent sure it was the right time to get a new cat but, like Astro, we loved her instantly and look forward to the next decade with our new four legged pack member!
